Day of Writing and Publishing
June 17 @ 13:00 - 18:00
Amsterdam has a lively literary scene. You can attend a reading or a live literary journal. Take a creative writing workshop or a master class. Join a book club or a critique group. You can think of that as the fun side of writing.
For the business end of that stick, Expanded Field Journal is hosting a Day of Writing and Publishing. Expanded Field is an English-language literary magazine based here in Amsterdam. They publish fiction and non-fiction, poetry and comics, and other experimental works not easily classified within genre boundaries.
The Day of Writing and Publishing starts with a publishing fair. You can talk to publishers, attend mini-workshops, and meet the folks at Expanded Field.
Then there’s a series of presentations. I get to kick off on the topic of creative writing. I’ll be talking about the three literary hats I wear these days: fiction writer, essayist, and teacher at the International Writers’ Collective.
Angelo Zinna, a freelance journalist and Expanded Journal editor, will be speaking about writing for the online market. Translator and teacher Miles Niemeijer will offer the final presentation.
My last appearance will be on a panel with Angelo and Miles to talk about publishing.
Dominican poet Frank Baez will close out the day.
Here’s the detailed timeline for the day.
