Author Meet & Greet and Book-Signing with Karen Kao
October 21 @ 14:00 - 16:00Free
In 1937 when my novel is set, Shanghai was home to over a million Chinese and roughly 30,000 “barbarians.” Bagdhadi Jews, German military advisors, British and American traders and French diplomats. Would you be surprised to learn that the Japanese formed the largest segment of the foreign population in Shanghai?
Traditionally, the Marco Polo Bridge Incident in July 1937 marked the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War, soon followed by the Second Battle of Shanghai in August. As of this year, however, the Chinese government has rewritten the history books to predate this war to 1931. Truth or fiction?
