VERSO / mass: Formulae
April 14 @ 19:00 - 22:00€7
VERSO / is Amsterdam’s very own live literary & arts journal. What does that mean? Like any self-respecting literary journal, VERSO/ features poetry and prose, essays and art. The difference? These works are performed, live, in your face.
Every season has a theme. Every two months, a new issue comes to town, each time with a new guest editor. On April 14, that means me!
This season the theme is MASS. You might be thinking church. Or maybe you’ve got the image of a big blob in your mind. But me, true to my pointy-headed background, I see physics. FORMULAE is the theme for my issue. Here’s a hint of what I mean as published on the event webpage:
We live in a world of formulae. Birth rates, earning power, life expectancy. The power load that the electricity network must sustain long enough for you to read this message. Mass is a formula for quantifying inertia. How much force will it take to overcome your resistance to change?
Now for the line-up aka table of contents:
Editorial by me
Poetry by poet, editor, translator Megin Jiménez, whose debut poetry collection will be published this year by 1913 Press
Fiction by poet and novelist Caoilinn Hughes, whose debut novel Orchid and the Wasp released last year
Essay by astronomer Daniel Michalik
Essay by change agent Kirk Wornum
Dance by performance artist Lily Kiara
If that’s not enough to lure you, there will also be soup and bread, a bar, and a bookstore selling works by these and other local writers as well as copies of the print journal Versal. Come!
