July 9 @ 18:30 - August 13 @ 20:30

Summer Level I writing workshop

Last time, folks! This will be my final Level 1 creative writing workshop before embarking on my round-the-world adventure.

Two things will be different with the summer workshop. First, it’s be shorter than normal, just six weeks. We start on 9 July and run through 13 August 2019 without a break. Second, the workshop will be in the evening from 18.30-20.30 to take advantage of the cool summer evenings.

Otherwise, it’s the Level 1 creative writing workshop you’ve come to know and love. We’ll be working with fundamental writing techniques like narrator, point of view, tone, mood and description.

Each week, I’ll give you a sample text. We’ll talk about the craft techniques buried inside. Your homework will then be to write a two page exercise using those same crafts. At the next class, we’ll discuss your exercise, those written by your fellow students and the new sample text. Rinse and repeat. In the meantime, you’ll be learning to read like a writer and to edit your own work.

Level 1 is for aspiring writers, including those who’ve never before set pen to paper. It can also be useful to experienced writers in search of formal instruction. For fiction writers and poets alike!

The venue is Amsterdam at the lovely Boekhandel van Rossum on the Beethovenstraat. Because it’s summer, we’ll meet in the garden (Dutch weather permitting).

Please note that advance registration is required. Places are filling up quickly. Sign up soon!
